Rainbow lorikeet

Trichoglossus moluccanus

Also calledLoriquet arc-en-ciel (French)

A noisy, rainbow-coloured parrot with a brush-tipped tongue for lapping nectar and pollen. Common in eastern Australian cities, it is an important pollinator of eucalypts and banksias.

The rainbow lorikeet is a species of parrot found in Australia. It is common along the eastern seaboard, from northern Queensland to South Australia. Its habitat is rainforest, coastal bush, and woodland areas. Six taxa traditionally listed as subspecies of the rainbow lorikeet are now treated as separate species. Wikipedia

Marginalia

At Currumbin on the Gold Coast, public lorikeet feeding has drawn visitors since the 1940s. In Perth, escaped birds became an invasive pest.

Curiosity

Rainbow lorikeets have been recorded catching and eating meat, which may be linked to diet shortages.
